The Essential Things that You Need for Breastfeeding

Breastfeeding is a concept that is quite easy to understand yet really hard to truly implement. What I mean is that although breastfeeding just needs you to have your breasts create milk and for your babies to suck your nipples to drink it, it is not that easy.

There are some mothers that have an abundant supply while there are also those that have a hard time getting enough milk naturally.

The good thing is that there are things that you can acquire to make breastfeeding so much easier. For instance, you can get a breast pump and have it extract the milk from your breasts and then you can just put it in a baby milk bottle to start the feeding process.

What other essential items are needed to make breastfeeding so much easier? Read on to find out.

Breastfeeding Pillow

Also known as a nursing pillow, this will allow you to support your baby by lifting them up to a certain point that allows for a much comfortable position when they are feeding off of your breasts.

Using a nursing pillow will also alleviate the stress that can be inflicted upon your neck, back, shoulders, and arms; making the entire thing so much easier and more comfortable for you.

When buying a nursing pillow, make sure that the material is not too hard and not too soft. It has to be made of hypoallergenic materials so that your baby’s skin won’t get irritated.

Nursing Pads

Although this is not for your baby, this is an invaluable thing, especially if you find that you’re leaking some breastmilk on your bra.
Leaking is actually quite a common phenomenon, especially a couple of weeks after giving birth. That is because your milk supply is still adjusting and there is some excess that needs to be discharged
You can either buy a disposable one or one that you can reuse such as a cloth nursing pad.

Breastfeeding Clothes

Although you can most certainly do away without them, breastfeeding clothes like blouses, nursing tanks, and dresses are specially made with some flaps that you can easily flip up and down. This allows you to breastfeed your baby without having to remove the entire top of your dress.

What is especially good about nursing clothes is that you can wear them underneath your main clothes and if you are about to breastfeed your baby, just take the top off slightly and then flip up the flap to start feeding.

Breast Pump

Breast pumps are definitely invaluable for moms. This can help you extract milk from your breasts quickly and easily. In fact, if you are about to work, a breast pump can really come in handy.

There are different types of configurations for breast pumps. You can either go for a manual or automatic pump (I suggest the latter), and there are those double or single pumps as well. It is just a matter of efficiency really, but the more efficient the pumps are, the more expensive they are going to be.

Still, I will consider it a good investment seeing how you can use the pumps for a very long time.
